Decarbonization is the main theme that MODEC presented as the foundation of its projects for the new FPSOs

Decarbonization was a key topic at MODEC's booth during ROG.e. The company, in partnership with Shape Digital, presented its commitment to a more sustainable future and discussed how the oil and gas industry is addressing this issue. Leonardo Santoro, Technical Management Manager at MODEC, highlighted the importance of achieving "Net Zero" by 2050, based on the company's business strategy. He emphasized that decarbonizing FPSOs, with a significant reduction in the carbon intensity of the vessels, and developing new businesses will be crucial to reaching this goal. “In addition to the new, more sustainable units under construction, MODEC is committed to optimizing its existing fleet, implementing improvements and innovative technologies to reduce emissions. By investing in research and development, MODEC is actively working to enhance operational processes and systems, ensuring that its entire fleet contributes to a cleaner and more responsible future,” noted Leonardo, who shared the stage with Júlio Ribeiro, Head of Product Development at Shape Digital.

The two new vessels under construction by MODEC for Brazilian offshore operations, Bacalhau and Raia, will feature innovative emission reduction technologies. The main one is the Combined Cycle Power Generation System, which will help reduce CO₂ emissions during the operation phase, by about 40% compared to the gas turbines currently used by the industry. Mental health for offshore workers is a top priority for the oil and gas industry. Melina Monteiro, Human Resources Supervisor at MODEC, participated in the panel “Mental Health Pitfalls for Young Professionals” held during the Young Summit, a parallel event to ROG.e 2024.

During her presentation, Melina addressed several important points related to young professionals, such as respecting personal limits, discussing mental health, and building resilience in the corporate environment—crucial realities for the challenges faced by Generation Z. “It is essential that offshore oil and gas companies adopt practices that promote mental health, psychological support, and workplace environments where everyone feels welcomed,” said Melina, who spearheaded MODEC’s mental health program, “MODEC with You.” The program started as a support channel managed by the company’s own psychologists, who, during the Covid-19 pandemic, provided assistance to employees. After more than four years, the program has gained momentum, providing over 30,000 consultations, holding over 100 continuous conversation circles, deploying psychologists on offshore units, conducting workshops, and training leaders to become more present and empathetic regarding the challenges their teams may face.
